About a month ago I had the Holley Carb in my '67 coupe completely overhauled.
I've recently replaced the plugs (AC R45S), points and condenser,
checked my PCV and wires.
My car seems to run just fine. It's idling at about 850.

Here's the problem...
When I accelerate past 3500-4000, the car sputters and misses.
It was doing it significantly on the passenger's side.
I monkeyed around with the mixture screws on the side of the carb and the missing improved, but it's still sputtering when I get on it. The missing seems to be more pronounced when the car is not really warmed up.

What gives?

Regards,
Pedro

The mixture screws won't affect it - they only affect idle mixture. Did the same thing occur before you had the carb rebuilt? What kind of shape are the distributor, coil, and plug wires in? Many issues that appear to be carb-related are actually ignition system-related.

Pedro from a guy who always guess left when I should of went right.

In the past every time I think I have a fuel problem it end's up being a ignition problem ,And then vice versa

So with that said

I had a simular problem with a ford that it ran like a champ at idel and up but when I reved it loaded or unloaded it would sputter.I was sure it was a fuel problem.I rebuilt the carb my self.Same problem,I then sent it out to a ford carb rebuilding and had the same excact problem.I called they guy and exsplained my problem I was having and he said check the distibutor,The carb he just re did for me was good when it came in and PERFECT when he was done he said definatley not a fuel problem gut an ignition problem.

Sure enough I looked into the distributor and found it was shot the base where the point sit on wobled all over the place in my hand when I removed it.In the car it seemed fine.If I cranked it over I could watch it open and close perfect. But out of the car in my hand it was loaded with slop.I send the distributor out to be rebuilt at the time it was less then seventy dollars to have it done.and let me tell you this was a 1970 351 clevland m code motor that once I had the rebuilt distributor in it.It ran like an animal.I thought the motor was a dog but it was never running correct.

I hope some one can tell us how to diagnous this problem for you.

Larry,JohnZ and 00fxd,
Thanks for your help and replies,
I'm going to replace the plug wires even though they look new and check the distributor.
The plugs, points and condenser are all new.

I'll leave the carb for last as I had it completely rebuilt about a month ago and I don't have the foggiest idea what to do with that. I'll take it to the guy that rebuilt it for me. He knows what he's doing.

Regards,
Pedro

I changed the points, plugs and condensor on my '67 and it started doing exactly what you describe. Turned out I was reading the tach/dwell meter wrong and the dwell was set at 15 degrees instead of 30. I reset the dwell correctly and the problem was gone. Just a clue. :beer
