This has not been my month for cars.

Here goes.
Got in my 85 this morning, started right up as usual, got on the parkway running about 80 no problems as usual. Get off stop at the light, idling fine, give it throttle , stalls. Starts right up idles fine but can not give it thottle as if it were starving for fuel. If I just ease the throttle I can get her to creep along but can not give her any amount of throttle without her what feels like starving for fuel. This just happened so I haven't gotten into fuel pressure check and the like but would appreciate any suggestions on where to start.;help

Carlo,

I would definitely get the fuel pressure checked. Last year, I had a similar problem on my '87 Chev Pickup, and it was the in-tank fuel pump. It was only running at about 9 psi, if I remember correctly.

Hope that the unit did not go on you, though. It was an expensive part.

Has the "note"of your exhaust changed?

Does it miss at idle?

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

The sock could have clogged at the head of the fuel pump.

When the engine has no load ( park or neutral).. can it rev up? And does it now sound like a HOOVER vacuume cleaner? Your cats could have plugged.

It idles fine as long as I don't give it throttle.
Fuel filter changed about 3 months ago.
I can not rev it in park or neutral
I am wondering about the cat? I'm going to do a fuel pressure test in about a half hour but that won't give me flow rate.
I can't really tell if the exhaust note has changed since I can't rev her.

.
Do you think I should pull the cat first if the fuel pressure looks good before removing the fuel pump and sock. Or maybe do a fuel flow check first?
Just did a pressure test only 10lbs. looks like a fuel pump. Well something to do this weekend

This is not my month:(

Just got the car home from work. Actually feathered the gas and got her up to speed. Pulled a code 44 on the way home. Lean condition. Well looks like I'll be checking the sock and punp and fuel filter this weekend.

How tough a job to replace the pump? Any tricks?
Thanks,

Carlo

Took the afternoon off and bought a new fuel pump. problem gone and boy is she running better than ever. It must have been crapping out slowly but surely. pretty straight forward install. It had the original pump in place and the new Delco required some splicing which i didn't really like. Why can't they just make a direct replacement with all the same connectors?

Well I'm:Steer and :D :D

Yeah Carlo!

Nice work.. did the proper checks.. attacked the problem with flair.. and now your cruising again!

Job Well Done!

Yeah Vig,
I hate when my 85 breaks down but in a way I kinda like the opportunity to work on her and get to know her cause she doesn't give me very many problems. Kinda sick:D But I gotta say that having this forum behind me seems to make me a little more courageous:L
Thanks for the input.
