Today very hot here. The vette ran its average water temp for the day. Started the car up drove about 12 miles and shut it down. The car sat for about 15 min. and when I tried to start it nothing happened. Not even A clicking sound from the starter selonoid. Here is a little troubleshooting that I did. Turned the ignition switch to the start position while watching the AMP meter-nothing, OK then I pushed the clutch in to make the clutch switch and the AMP meter peg's -14 still no sound at all. release the starter switch and roll up both windows they seem to operate at A normal speed to rule out the battery. The car sit's for 2 hours I go over to try it again now just for the heck of it I rock the car foward and aft while in gear. I step in the car turn the ignition switch to start the AMP meter initialy peg's to -14 then imediatly to 0 and when it hit 0 amps the car started. I shut it right down and tried another start whith no problems. Now I have to play vehicle shuttle so I end up driving my car for the next hour in the heat the car still running at average temps. I get it home shut it down and started it 4 more times with no problems. Now I was trying to see if the starter heat soak theory came in to play. A little history I have owned the car for 7 months it has ran great. I put ceramic coated hooker headers on about 2 months ago the install went smooth and I never had A starting problem up to today Please help and thank you in advance

Thats the clutch switch I was talking about in my first post. Thank You for your reply Sherry. I appreciate it.

UPDATE: The place I bought the car from is going to replace A wire harness, hopefully related. When I test drove the car I went to shut the car off. I turned the ignition switch to the off position and the car remained running. They said they would fix this problem for me if I buy the car, Also they are good friends of mine so there good for there word. They have already replaced an ignition switch.

It sounds like your starter is on the way out. What you have described is heat soak, where the heat from the headers/exhaust manifold cause the starter solenoid to open(as opposed to short) and not engage the starter motor. It is fairly common, but you should also look at the condition of the starter wiring as it may be loose corroded, or broken being affected by the heat as well.
