On my '81 there is a small black hose around 1/8" dia or slightly larger that goes from the back of the carb to a box connected to the firewall. The box is under a metal bracket is attached to the fireall right ahead of the driver.
What does this little hose do please. I have changed my '81 to a non computer engine now, with new Edelbock heads, intake and carb and the new edelbrock performer carb doesn't have the connector at the back. :beer

Sound like the MAP sensor. Is the box rectangular shape? If you no longer have a computer the MAP probably does nothing.

It doesn't look like the pic posted. It hasn't got an electrical connector, it looks like a vacuum connector. It is quite short around 10" total length:confused

Paul...Hit reply and then scroll down to "Manage Attachments" post the pic there.

Without seeing it, hard to tell. But if it connected to the old carb and didn't have another hose leading somewhere nor an electrical connection the I would say it had something to do with the carb. Are you absolutely certain it does not have anyother connection points??? Since you no longer have that carb you probably don't need it.

If you can't get a picture try this. Go to www.ebay.com, find an 81 vette for sale scroll through the pictures, find one showing this box, Post a link and we will go take a look.

Here is a pic showing the small black hose connected to the back of the carb. I believe it is a vacuum sensor.

Paul,

I think you are right. It is probably the MAP sensor line.
However,it could be the vaccuum port for your heater box control. Any 1981 experts out there?

In looking at the hose closer...it seems too small in diameter to be for a MAP sensor. does the hose go right through the box on the firewall? It is the right size for a heater control.

Jim

It just plugs into something on the firewall, I will take a closer look tonight
