Print these out, pull up a lawn chair under that favourite tree in your yard and go way, way back to 1955.

Is this a great hobby, or what?

Thanks Bob, interesting read.

I never knew about the potential Cameo/Corvette link.

I read somewhere a long time ago that Chevrolet did indeed have several hundred 54's leftover when the '55 models were ready to come out. What they did was just change the numbering on them so they became '55's and sold them that way.

Don't know for sure if this is fact or myth, but they had to do something with them. PT

Nope, no re-numbering happened; those units were simply still sitting un-sold on dealer lots at the end of the model year, and eventually sold, just as leftover end-of-model-year inventory units eventually sell today, at reduced prices. GM (or any other manufacturer) really doesn't care about end-of-model-year inventory on dealer lots - they get paid by the dealers for the cars the day they're shipped from the assembly plants, although they usually offer incentives to the dealers ("dealer cash") to help them peddle last year's cars, as the dealers are still paying wholesale floorplan interest on anything sitting on their lot.
