C3/C4 KID

Hi, my name is Russ and im from Northeast Philadelphia Pa. Im thinking on buying a 89 C4. The headlights work but did not flip around , I can see the motor works that moves them. I did try to move them manually with the knob with no luck. Is there adjustments for the assembly that I can them work? Or do have to get two new headlights assembly's ?

Thanks Russ

Welcome aboard the CAC, Russ! I hope you enjoy our Corvette community!!

I can't answer the specifics of the headlight motor question (I'm a C3 kinda guy) but it is kind of a notorious problem for C4s.... much like C3s are notorious for vacuum leaks in the headlight system. It seems to me that it involves a plastic gear wearing out or something like that... but I'm sure the resident experts will chime in soon!

Welcome. I have an 89, and it does sound like that gear is worn. Replacements are available from just about every Corvette vendor. You can upgrade to brass that lasts longer.

It's usually the plastic dowels, that cost pennies (as bought at Home Depot) but, take a bit of work to replace. Hit search and you'll find a wealth of posts, on this......Roger.

You don't need 'a kit'. As I said, Home Depot, for pennies, or Autozone, for Ford window winder motor, dowels, a little more expensive. A nail will do the job of a punch.Although I did buy a punch. The You Tube version, works for the L/H motor but, the R/H doesn't want you to just pull out the gear. I removed the screw drive, through the top of the motor, which allowed the gear to pull right out. Some people prefer to file a notch in the gear, instead.Just make sure the reassembly has everything in the same place. Once you get the motor out, it's really self explanatory.......Roger.
