About 500 mile's ago I purchased a new Pertronix distributor (Flame Thrower) along with new wires, Rapid Fire plugs. I was getting high RPM cut out from my stock unit, and all the new parts worked great for stopping that. I did though read somewhere that I could open up the plug gap from 0.035 to as much as 0.055 (which I did) because of more spark getting to the plugs, and all was fine, ran great. Lately it seems to be getting harder to start when its warm, which it never did before, so I pulled the plugs to take a look. They where covered pretty good with dark to light brown soot:confused do I have the plug gap to large? What do you all run with your HEI system. This is the first time I have run these plugs (Rapid Fire) would they run better with the stock gap?

Close up the gaps to about 0.040"-0.045" ... regardless whether rapidfire or plainjane buck & a quarter plugs. Not all claims are valid for each application.
