The last time I drove the Corvette last fall, it had a high frequency vibration, very slight. I only noticed it at 80 mph, doesn't seem to do it at 70 mph. After I had new tires put on, Goodyear F1 GS D3, I drove it 3-400 miles at 80 mph, and felt nothing. I'd like to get it fixed this winter--anyone have any ideas. The car has 37,000 easy miles--96 LT4. Thanks.

Sounds like you've already fixed it!

I agree, it sounds like you have fixed the problem. As the tires wear, they can produce different effects and sounds. I had a set of tires checked on the Hunter GSP 9700. This balancer measures tire radial and lateral force. They take the info from the tires, then sort them around the car. The problem is that our cars use directional tires, so the options are limited.

Good luck.

I didn't explain this correctly. For the first 3-400 miles after I put the new tires on, there was no vibration at 75 mph. Then I drove it on non-interstate roads at 60 mph for 1-2000 miles. Then the last time I drove it was on a Minnesota interstate at 75 mph and I felt the vibration. If I slow to 70, I feel nothing. Did I do better this time?

That is definately a better explanation. Sounds like you may have lost a wheel weight on one your wheels. Can you see the residue of a past wheel weight on any of the wheels? You will need to look at both sides of the wheel. I would recommend you take them back in for re-balance. If the balance checks out, ask to have the tire radial and lateral forces looked at with the Hunter GSP-9700.

Good luck.

Hunter GSP-9700.

Had the same prob w/ mine, had it balanced w/ the Hunter...problem solved.
Possibly one of your tires is out of round. Give that a go.

My front tires have just a little bit of flat spotting on the inside. Not much just that if you look real close you can see it. I have that high freq. vibration at certain speeds. I asume that I need to have the car aligned. If your alignment is off, 2000 miles could do some damage. With the wide tires balance and alignment are critical.
:w

Thanks everyone--I did have it aligned when the new tires were installed. I will first check for missing wheel weights, and then have the balance rechecked.
