Today while on a 200 mile trip my oil pressure went from 40 to 80 in an hour then to 100 psi in 1 1/2 hours. The oil looks fine, I am hoping that the sending unit is malfunctioning. Has anyone had this sort of problem? I won't be leaving from my vacation until Monday and was hoping for some input.

Thanks,

Larry

Sure sounds like the sensor (its a REAllY common failure). Quick way to check is to turn the key on but DO NOT start the engine. When you turn the key, all the gauges will fire up. If you get a pressure reading with the motor OFF, its the sensor.

Hi...have the same problem...it is a sensor that went bad in mine..I have yet to fix it..check with key on but car not running..it should be the sensor

good luck

Thanks guys, tried the key the next morning with the car not running and it had 40 psi. Is having the sensor replaced expensive? Easy to reach?

I had mine done on the Firebird when I had my intake swap... The part is like $15, I'm not sure where it sits in relation to the firewall in the C5, but... it resides behind the manifold, infront of the firewall on the Firebird/Camaro, therefore the intake manifold needs to come out in order to reach it. I would recommend just having it done when you get back... It's just the sensor.
