High Speed Tire Balancing

I've recently had an incident where my right front tire inside wheel weight flew off the wheel to impact the fender in four places. Spider web cracks from the bottom side. It must have bounced off the tire a couple times and rattled around. It all happened in a split second. I actually thought I'd hit something although I didn't see anything in the road.

I left the car at the body shop last week to return from vacation and it's all fixed and lookin sharp. Yes, I was exceding the speed limit when the incident happened.

So, what are we to ask for at our local tire shop when balancing wheels? I live near a drag strip, and a clay oval track, but my stock aluminums must be balanced different than the 1/4 midgits and drag cars right? Should I be asking for the tape on lead weights or the hammer in edge weights on the inside with an epoxy or what? I really don't want this to happen again. What are you high speed guys/gals using?

Well I don't know what u condiser hi speed I don't drive over a 100mph
I have TT2s not the best rims for speed, I do a dyaminac ballance Lead weights on the inside and stick on weights in side the spoke .
I used to do just the stick on in the center but this works much better.
a true ballance would be weights on both sides but that would ruin the rim.....

I run 2000 wheels and Kuhmos on a '94. I had them true balanced on the wheels with the wheels on the car. They spin the wheels with an electric motor and balance the wheel, disk and tire as one unit. They shave a small amount of rubber (match book thicknes) and balance the remainder with tape weights on the inside of the rim. They also leave a red dot to line the valve stem up with if I ever remove the wheel to ensure putting it back on in the same place. I then used duct tape as racers do to ensure a good hold. The tape is black and doesnt show unless you look for it. The method makes for a glass smooth ride at any speed.
