I was wondering how many forum members register their vehicles as historic vehicles. In NJ we have the QQ designation. I would also like to know if any of you have had any problems with historic plates as you are only to drive the car for 'educational or show purposes.

DS,

I was planning on registering my 1973 Chevelle with QQ plates in NJ, i have all the paper work. I have seen many classic cars driving arround with QQ plates, i am sure nice sunday afternoon drives can be educational. There is no milage limits from the paper work i have.

You have to go down to the Trenton DMV, thats the only place that can do it. But you might be able to do it via mail. I called them up and got all the paper work here... find the web site and they will send you a letter.

Good Luck,
John

Historical plates

Hey guys, here in the buckeye state, home of the undefeated and currently ranked #1 college football team in the nation, it is no problem obtaining historical plates. If there are any restrictions to running these plates I am not aware of them. You are even allowed to personalize them.:cool

The interesting thing about model year plates is that you only have to run a rear plate. Ohio is a 2 plate state.

One other thing to remember is how the state looks at what is considered "general transportation". If you use your historically registered car for transportation to work, school, shopping hauling lumber home(trucks) or anything that isn't pleasure ot club, show, cruise related you are in violation. An evening cruise with the just to enjoy the car is ok too.

Florida has a few different plates; Antique, Historic, Collector and you can license a vehicle with the same year plate. There are varying requirements of age and type but I've never had any mileage restriction by the state.

My 57 has a 57 Florida plate: 5-5426 (the first number in those days represented the county - in this case Polk County)

This is the plate that licensed this car when it was new!
