ps: I got all this from the CAC's 1974 specs... here's a link... http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c3/1974/74id.html

Another useful tool is the CAC Tech Center | Owner Research Center:

Be sure to check the General Information and Information Listings in the upper left-hand column on that page too!

Good luck with your quest!

Check with the seller for original factory documentation with the car (window sticker, invoice, Corvette order copy, new car purchase agreement, tank sticker, etc.).

The Owner Research Center won't be of help for you. They have information for 77-81 cars. To my knowledge, there is no factory documentation for the 76 and earlier cars unless the information is with the car.

NCRS has just announced a new members only service that can provide you with Corvette delivery data for model years 1962 thru 1975. There are two reports available for $40 each. Check it out at the NCRS Historic Document Services website www.NCRS.org/services.php Remember, you must be a NCRS member to obtain these reports.

The NCRS report will only tell you the name of the original dealer it was destined for and the car completion date. The date is pretty well redundant info when compared to the trim tag info. Most users of this service are finding that the dealer has long ago gone out of business and/or trashed their old paperwork.

No info is available from the NCRS on original owners or car options.

You may be correct Mikey, as I have not used this service as I don't have a car from those years. However, the delivered dealer and car completion date is, in my opinion, an important historical part of the car. Since the original posting was not specific in what history was desired, I was only trying to offer possible information that might be valuable to the owner. Only if the owner knows how to decode the trim tag, is the info there informative. It also doesn't provide any historical information. There is also infomation that can be obtained through the National Corvette Museum, as they also have old records containing built sheets, etc. But none of these will provide former owner information. I don't think that is available on any consumer database that I know of. I was just offering some possible options to the posting. :w

...the delivered dealer and car completion date is, in my opinion, an important historical part of the car...

Possibly. Lots of folks are learning the original dealer is now out of business or, if still operating, has no records of cars sold thirty years ago.

...There is also infomation that can be obtained through the National Corvette Museum, as they also have old records containing built sheets, etc....

The NCM has limited information for the cars built at Bowling Green. They have no information for cars built at St. Louis.

To be honest, for any car built prior to 77, there is likely to be no documentation available unless it comes with the car at the time of the sale.

:)

Your right about the NCM. I made a mistake about them having information for Corvettes built in St. Louis. I regret the error. :ugh

Again, the main purpose for responding to this post, was to maybe provide some avenues of investigation for the new owner(s). Although they might not be exactly what they are looking for, at least I tried to provide some information that they can either accept at face value or discount at their own discretion. I would however, be interested in what options you would suggest for the car owner, in his search for historical information about his car. And your right about car dealers going out of business, as that is even more prevelent today after the old GM with down the toilet and took many dealers with them. My original dealer doesn't exist under the name or location that they were when I ordered and took delivery of '79. But they do still exist under a different name and location! Do they still have records of my order/purchase in their current location? Probably not, but who really knows? Anything is possible! If I didn't have all my paperwork, and I knew the dealer was still around, I might give it shot to call (if out of state) or visit them (if local dealer) and talk to the general manager about the possibility of the papers still being available. Any sort of future customer "good will" can go a long way in cultivating "new" customers in the future. Again, just my opinion.

Maybe These might work

Here are maybe 3 possible websites that might provide some of the information that the original poster is look for. I don't work for or have ever used these services, so I can vouch for their completeness. Use at your own discretion. The CARCO Group site was the one I just visited. I would have a done a search of my own car but, Illinois is 1 of 3 states that doesn't provide DMV information to them. I don't know about the other 2. Best of luck! :w
