Hi

While l was reading thru a catalog (Eckler's) l noticed that they listed insulation for the hood.

For 84-96 years. Did the vette have this option, because mine does not have a hint of this.

:)Corvette engines run very hot for emission issues. That insulation is designed to keep the heat off the hood. This heat can eventually ruin the paint. I think that is the main reason for these insulation blankets. They have to be installed securely to prevent it from falling on the engine and getting tangled with the serpentine belt. :w My two cents worth.

;stupid

How many of you out there have this installed ??
What do you think??

By all means, get the hood backing. I need a new paint job on my '84 anyway, but the paint on the hood is full of bubbles and is starting to crack. I was told the underhood needs a heat shield. Made perfect sense to me.

There were so many things missing or altered on my Vette when I bought it, but I'm learning as I go along. This forum has been a big help to me. Thanks to all!

By the way, what page did you find the hood backings on in the catalog??

Debbie :v

No backing here and no problems on the 85 or the 82 for that matter.

The hood insulation wasnt on the 84-96 models. Its just an aftermarket add on.It cant hurt.

just the holes...

The only bad thing is that with that kit, you need to drill 14 small holes in the hood to attach it.

just my .02

i think its more of a fire blanket than a hood insulator,i had my 89 for 3 years and never had one, hood never bubbled,if you do put one, paint something on it first:D ;)
later,Todd.

i think most people remove them to save weight, and there nasty when there old and brittle.i set up my car so it runs about 185*,its much cooler under the hood,so maybe thats why theres no bubbles in the paint.you could maybe put a nicely fabricated piece down the middle where the TPIs plenum is real close to the hood.

Sooo......

Where can I get such backing??? Of all the cataloges I have, I have not seen any backings or insulations. Or is this something I can just buy at my local auto parts store?

Debbie
