Hood Lines fit wiper question

Tried to clean my windshield yesteday and passenger side wiper folds ok but noticed driver side would not"bend" so I had to open hood. Upon further inspection noticed the "cowl" was about 21/2 inches wide and got wider toward passenger side. The lines fit on the hood but didn't see anyway or room to move the driver wiper without it hitting the edge of the hood. What tolerance levels are these! I don't see even a warranty fix here I thought they finally figured out how to put these things together. Just doesn't seem normal to me. No history I can find that this was ever addressed. Anybody ever seen anything like this ?

Yes, you have to either open the hood or pull the key when the wiper blades are mid-sweep. My wife's T-Bird and my neighbor's Porsche are the same way.

wwr, you got my curiosity going, so at lunchtime I went out and checked mine ('03). Sure enough, you have to open the hood or do as BW1 sugests and turn off the key mid sweep.
