i was wonderin if anybody had info on hood pins/ locks? i have never seen them used on a c4 and didnt know if they were even able to work on 84-96's. anybody have a picture of a vette with these things onthem? thanks

The whole purpose of hood pins are to keep the hood from opening on you at speed. The C4 Corvette, having a clamshell hood that opens from the rear forward, sorta defeats the purpose of the pins, eh? ;)

i thought that by installing hood locks instead of paying gm 85 bucks for a new hood release cable would be a better deal. i like the way they look too.........eh.

I thought about about doing hoodpins on my '85. I've seen it done before and it does look pretty cool. Gives it that old "muscle car" look. The only problem is you'd have to cut holes in your hood and then you'd have to make sure you secure the hood down tight. Kinda sounds like more work than it's worth.

88, you could be like Chris (69MyWay) and drive around with the hood just sitting there ajar. He, for some reason (air cleaner clearance I think), doesn't close his hood completely. Freaked me out the first time I saw him driving like that. :L

Actually, no worries on the hood clearance or latches, etc. Until I get an engine 100% broke in, etc, I don't want anything coming between me and getting the hood open fast if need be.

Believe it or not, I am starting to latch it more and more.

I have put hood pins on a 69 coupe, and helped some friends do them on other cars including a trans am, and a blazer. I would have to tell you that they are a pain in the butt. What they really do is reduce weight on the pure race car. Hood latch hardware all added up is heavy, and could be unreliable, or could get stuck after a crash. Hood pins are light weight, and a saftey crew member could remove the hood in the event of a fire, etc without having to enter the car and release the latch.

The problem is, you have to walk around the car to release them. Works great when you have a buddy riding shotgun, because you both get out and pop your respective pin.

My vote is against it for a real street car, especially a Vette since you don't have instant one step access.

Think about a Camaro. You can walk to the front of the car on a Camaro and pull both pins at one time and lift the hood. Try that on the C4 without sliding across the hood or running a chinese fire drill around it to release them.
