Alright, I posted earlier and got some reponses, but I am still stuck. How the heck do you get the hood open if your hood release cable snapped???

I have a 73 if that helps. Someone please give me your phone number so you can walk me through this....

Hood

I got under car with ratchet and extentions and unscrewed the hood latches.

I've never actual done it. But i have read about it. Apparently there are two access panels in front of your wipers. Remove the panel to get to the latch.

where there's a release,there's a cable for that release.find the cable and pull it w/your hand!i broke a few of those,not in a vette though!!good luck!

This happened on my '72. I had to take the side scoop off on the drivers side and on mine you could actually reach up there and manually release the hook by grabbing the cable. On the end of my cable there was a cable nut with a set screw that had broken so when pulling the hood release, it just moved freely.
I reached up there and clamped a mini pair of vise grips on the free end and had my son pull the release from inside and miraculously it popped open.

That sucks! I wish I had advise for you... hope you get it open, and that it's not a contagious thing!

Do you not see the rubber plugs on each side of the firewall where the wipers are mounted? Look in the area or your wipers. There is a plug to the extreme left and right or where the wiper arms attach. These pugs are the size of a silver dollar. They pop out. the latches are directly infront of them.

I don't know if this will help. But I read in one of the magazines that you can take a broom handle and flash light. Go under the car through the wheel wells into the engine compartment, reach the latches with the broom handle and release them. good luck. I think now may be a good time for me to replace my cables.
