does anyone have a photo of theirs they can post to show me how this should be glued on an 81? Mine is missing and it is a funny shape so I don't know which end to put the glue on. I am sure once I stick it on there it isn't coming back off very easy....I have heard this helps the "fumes smell" since the engine smell won't be able to go through the wiper compartment as easy where fresh air may come through. I am not sure of the validity of this, but either way mine is gone and I have a new one. Any help is appreciated!

Installation of the weatherstipping will be shown in the assembly instruction manaul. Do you have the '81 AIM?

I am an idiot, I figured it out. That adhesive is very messy to deal with, but I got it on with 2 people and some masking tape to hold it until it fully dried. I was told putting this back on helps to eliminate the fumes that come from under the hood through the wiper compartment to inside the interior of the car. Anyone know if this is true?

Glad you figured it out that seal is next on my to do list. ive also heard about the seal helping reduce fumes and heat inside the car. what kind of adhesive did you use, i was planning on using 3m weathersrip adhesive.

Yes, that's true - that's exactly why the weatherstrip is there. :)

I got the adhesive from Corvette Central where I ordered the weatherstrip, very messy but works well. get some masking tape to hold it while it dries.

It also helps to clean the new weatherstrip with a rag and alcohol before installing it - many of them still have a talc-like mold release residue on them, and the glue doesn't stick to it very well.

I used 3M Adhesive cleaner to get the old stuff off and 3M weatherstrip adhesive to install the new rubber. It worked great and I got it at a local Paint & Body Supply shop. Pete.

Thanks for the advise guys. so Lance did the weatherstrip help with the fumes?

Did mine last night a bit messy but did it in about 15 minutes could of done it in about 10 without the wifes help but it was much more fun with her helping. JK:D. ill post results as soon as i drive it.

I think it helped a little. I need to look all over my firewall and see if there is any openings fumes may be getting into also.
