I have heard others talk about a product called Hot Stuff which you paint on your manifolds to give them a polished silver appearance. Does anybody know anything about this product, is it worth it, how much, and where can you buy it?

I'm not familiar with that specific product but did my own testing by shooting one side with silver VHT paint, and the other side with a "rub on" product called CALYX (I think that's the right spelling) - - a shoe polish type consistency that is rubbed on with a soft cloth.

It was tough to get even coverage with the Calyx and in time, it has flaked off - - -by comparison, the high temp paint still looks good and would probably be even better if I'd taken the headers off instead of trying to mask everything off to avoid overspray.

Now I'm curious and will check at AutoZone or Checker on the Hot Stuff.

Regards-

I just saw a 69 mustang that had the manifold dressed with Hot Stuff. They look great. I have found some on ebay, it is $10.95. Supposedly it is good up two 2400 degrees, much higher temp than most high temp paints. I just dont know how durable. The stang that I saw had just been done, well one side, so I was able to compare the before and after...quite a change!

I used the Calyx Exhaust Manifold dressing found in Ecklers and elsewhere. I applied it last winter, and I have been very pleased with its performance on my manifolds. It looks pretty good overall and a lot better than before I applied it. One tip I have for the Calyx, is that I added a little water once it started to dry out in the container. This made is more pliable and easier to apply. The Calyx is specifically for manifolds according to the ad in Ecklers. I agree with CQRT, I would remove headers and spray them, but for manifolds, I think Calyx is a good product. It is possible that you may have to reapply, however, it is an easy process and not very expensive.

and a pretty butt-ugly winter it's been ! (We moved from Ohio to Scottsdale, AZ and never looked back!)

Good point on the Calyx - - -the finish on the factory manifolds is more pourous than the smooth finish on headers and I'd guess it adheres better.... will try it on the old MGB.

Best wishes to all for a safe and Happy New Year!

Regards-
