Hi Guys,

I have a stock '72 Stingray and would like to keep it stock (or looking stock)with the exception of dumping the points. What kits are out there? Which would you suggest? Thanks.

I have the Pertronix Ignitor and I'm very happy with it.
I guess there are some improvements in Ignitor II vs Ignitor, but i dunno what that is.

Funny to be reading this now... I just caught part of a Horsepower TV marathon on Spike TV where they got rid of the points style distributor in favor of the HEI. Didn't look like too difficult of a task. Of course, I've see them intall a huge supercharger in one episode to!

Im one of the strange ones.....Im still running my dual point tach drive and I still say while maybe not as powerful it runs my .40 over 350 at 415 hp with 450 lbs torque just dandy........

They make HEI type dists with tach drives. Or you can convert your point dist to and HEI and then still maintain your tach drive.

Thanks waterboy1976.

I swapped my points for the Pertronix Ignitor in my old 71 and start to finish took no time at all. The car looked stock too. There are some others out there like the Ignitor that fit under the cap and some only have one wire just like the stock setup. Either way, you won't be disapointed.

Crane has a newer points-to-electronic conversion kit now ... aka "XR-1" ... all fits inside ... has two wires instead of the one-wire points ... also has on-board adjustable rev limiter ... senses directly off lobes so no shutter wheel required ... under $65. Yes you can use an HEI ... seems like the ones with tach drive are about $500. A non tach drive HEI can be had dirt cheap but then you need a factory OE electronic tach from 75 thru 77 vette. Consider what waterboy wrote ... a good points setup in good condition will do just about as well as anything else for most street motors ... only a generation back it was what everyone relied on.
