I can't find anything on this and its making me insane!!

I removed shifter know button (silver thing with spring) but how do I get the round knob off? I can't see that there is a screw or a clip or anything and it sure doesn't pull off - HELP!

Its 12:18 am so hopefully the west coast folks are still awake :-)

Replace the shifter boot - sounded easy - then the boot comes with the 20 steps of instructions!

I'm cranky and tired, can you tell?

Thank you!!!! I will put some more pb blaster on it - it must be seized up or something.

If you're still fighting with this, use a piece of leather...an old belt or maybe a worn out purse or something that you never threw away...put that around the knob to protect it, then put a pipe wrench on it.

Great idea! thank you. it sure is a stubborn little thing.

Seriously though, one thing that came to mind but I didn't suggest using, is one of those new rubber silicone pot holders, they're a durable rubber about 3/16" think and great gripping qualities!

I'm assuming ofcourse that you're suggesting them as something to use to grip the shifter knob to help get it off, and not implying that OceanGal should be washing dishes instead of working on cars....

LOL - I wash dishes and work on cars ;-)

So I told hubby I had an "idea for the shifter knob" (since the boot was one of my projects) and he basically said what you all said before I even had a chance to say it. As if I was going to really one up him! LOL.

No, I was being dead serious. :mad I'm always stealing these from the kitchen because they have such a great grip.

by the way, I enjoy "doing the dishes" (sans gloves). especially after a day of working in the garage.
