How do I remove the vanity mirror from the passenger side visor?

I need to repair the wiring on the back side of the mirror. Does anybody know how the mirror itself is mounted on the visor? I've got an '81.

I believe it's just a push in deal. There are two holes in the cardboard that the mirror pops into, and some sticky stuff on the back side of the mirror.

Is your switch just not functioning?

There are two mushroom looking studs on the back of the mirrror and they have plastic grommets on them that snap into the holes in the visor. When you take that mirror off you will very likely break the plastic grommets so you may want to order up a couple of them right away.

Check the hardware isle at Home Depot/Lowes. They have several bins of 'automotive fasteners' - the plastic grommets and plastic self expanding rivets and other parts like that. You'll probably find what you need for 20 cents (and no shipping!).

Thanks everyone, I knew if I waited long enough the answers would come in....!

Again, thank you.

Anyone ever actually find these "grommets" -- or confirm that the mirror just snaps in place? Also, anyone know where to find a replacement switch for it? :confused

Still talking an '81.

How about that vanity mirror plunger-type switch? Anywhere to get that?
