how do you get the service codes on an 86

Guys,
I see alot of mention on the service codes, do you need xtra equipment or is it something that is displayed on the car itself?

No...just need a paper clip to jump A to B.


I read about it on the net. I got the code for my 84 that way and my Astro Van was throwing a Service Engine Soon light. It had 2 codes stored. Look on the net about retrieving GM ECM codes. It is really very easy.

If after you repair the vehicle you desire to erase the codes and start anew, you merely disconnect the ground cable and count to 100 slowly, then reconnect the cable (prefereably with a little dielectric grease.
