I have wondered if it is a Z oh six or a Z zero six. ie; The letter "O" or the number 0.ArkShark said:Is it properly pronounced "Zee Oh-six" or "Zee Ought-six"?

"Ought" is generally a term used when speaking in years only. Older people still talk this way. "I was born in ought 5", which would be 1905, for example. That is why we say "thirty ought six" for the .30-06 caliber rifle round. The round was originally developed in 1906. The round doesn't have .06 more diameter. It is just from the year it was made.30.06 = "Thirty ought-six". It would be silly to say "Thirty Oh-six", wouldn't it?
I read where Dave Hill has referred to the car as "Zee Ought-six" but allows as it is most commonly known as the Z-OH-6. If we all decide to accept it as 'ought' I'm going to have to change my license plate! :cryArkShark said:Is it properly pronounced "Zee Oh-six" or "Zee Ought-six"?
