I have an 88 C4. I can surely set the alarm off (on accident), but I have not figured out how to set it yet. Mainly, I'd like to set it when I leave the top off to protect the interior items. Thanks!

I believe you merely need to lock the doors using the power locks before closing the door and it's set.

Thanks .... not sure if mine is working....

Thank you for your post. I did lock my doors with the power lock, waited fifteen seconds, and then reached through the window to unlock the door manually as I would assume an intruder would do. The interior handle does not move (locked), so I unlocked using the slider and/or the power door locks, opened the door --- but no alarm. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Hmmmm. I thought that was it. Let me check my owners manual. Be back shortly.

According to the owners manual. Locking the doors with the power door lock switch activates the theft deterrent system. ;shrug

Maybe I need to check the fuse???

It's funny ... when I first got the car a few months back, I could set off the alarm and not know how I did it. Now that I am trying to do it, nothing. (-:

Yeah, my VATS system will go off for no reason from time to time. The Theft Deterrent System (TDS) is somewhat unrelated to the VATS system. The VATS works off a "pellet" in your key. If it's dirty or corroded, it can cause problems. Sometimes the VATS acts up for no reason and the only cure is to bypass it.

You TDS problem could be fuse related.

Thanks! Location of fuse and type?

Do you know the location of the fuse box and the type of fuse needed? I am without a manual right now but will be getting one soon. Thank you for all your help.

The fuse panel for your TDS is located behind the Driver information center. Also a hatch and crank fuse is there .Requiring removal of the center panel of your dash. It's a 15 amp fuse.

I appreciate your kindness and information. Cajun

I'm happy to help when I'm able. I gotta hit the sack. I'll check back in tomorrow. I'm sure others may have some ideas too. :beer

Yeah, the alarm has gone off a few times in my 89, and I had no idea how it went off. Then I go stick my key in the ignition to turn it off, then remember you have to stick the key in the door.

Alarm should have sounded. Check fuses.

Alarm did work .... wonder what I did not do earlier???

Tried the anti-theft this morning .... I am sure the neighbors appreciated their mid-morning wake up call. I locked the car last night using the power lock switch. This morning, I reached inside and unlocked the door with the power switch, opened the door, and ALAAARMMMM. Okay, so it does work! And I remembered that it must be silenced with the key in the door. Thanks to all for your help!
