My '84 just recently turned 160K, and got me wondering what kind of miles others have racked up on the odometer...and what you have done/had done to keep it going strong. Mine got a fresh powerplant (not completely stock of course :D) earlier this summer that I put together over the past winter, among other repairs like steering rack, some electrical stuff, new wheels/tires...so on and so on. This winter I'm hoping to give the suspension an overhaul...so the 'ol Z51 will handle like it's supposed to.

It's kinda cool to take a Corvette that could only sit in a driveway due to all the problems and turn it into a reliable daily driver, for about $6K. Still MUCH work to do though.

250,000 miles on original tranny!

My own 78 is 25 years old with probably 250,000 miles on her. Husband bought her about 13 years ago with 87,000 on the odo. We've replaced a lot of big-ticket items like the rear end, bushings/bearings, GM crate engine and many smaller, secondary items crucial to a running vehicle.

There are a lot of people who try to keep the miles low on their vette and I just don't understand why. A vehicle is made to get you from Point A to Point B and a Corvette does it with style.

As far as keeping resale value with lower miles...I'm not driving my car to please some future owner, I drive it to please ME!

If a person keeps on top of maintenance issues then I don't feel the mileage become a factor. Mileage only indicates how many miles the entire vehicle was driven...if you replace moving parts, they only have the mileage driven since the replacement, not the entire mileage from the life of the vehicle.

I think it does a car more harm than good to sit with long periods between drives, so drive the wheels off 'em and get your money's worth!

Plans coming up:
Suspension, brakes and overhaul the TH350 tranny.
...then we can start all over at the beginning! :L

My 82 has 103k+ on the odometer. I think.. I am not sure though, as i bought it with 73k showing, and i saw it click over once, so we are AT LEAST at 103k+.. But it doesnt matter to me, i am with Heidi on that one: It was made to be driven, and thats what i do. The more the better. The only things i have gone through so far was 3 alternators (over 10 years), batteries and the radiator got replaced. Other than that, i am trying to keep it running and looking ok. Oh, and the above mileage doesnt include ca. 8000 miles from going over the pond twice. :D

My '90 has 125,000 on it. Had to replace the trans at 90.

The 73 conv has unknown milage.

The 73 Coupe has 50,000 :) It sure hurt :( when it turned over that 50K

tom...

my odometer is spinning like a Vegas one-arm bandit... wish i knew what mine has on the clock..

My 66 has 92000 miles on it..and is almost show quality. I like it to remain as original as possible....I just rebuilt the engine and trans..all to original specs, even added all new exaust...I am going to drive the thing as often and as far as a can.......that is why i bought the thing!.....If it breaks or wears out....I'll fix it!
