I had an incident with my vette. (Long story short) I moved the wiper switch and smoke starting coming out from the hood there was a short and the wires were red and burning fast. I was lucky I was at home to put it out with some water.

Now, how many of you have a Fire extinguisher in your vette?

If you do, where do you keep it?

Where did you buy it?

I am going to get one just in case. Thanks for your time.

I never leave home without it. I keep it in the center storage compartment behind the seats.

I do

1977 L48, 4 speed with 77 L82 balanced block, Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake.

Classic Corvette white, Buckskin leather Interior. Original Aluminum wheels B.F Goodrich 235-60-15s. Center Force clutch, SS brakes and E brake. Hi flow Cat Magnaflow Polished SS Mufflers. Griffin Aluminum Radiator, F-41 front 330lbs fiberglass rear springs. 1” front 5/8” rear sway bars, AC Delco shocks. Energy Poly Bushings, And much, much more.

I got one. Picked it up at the local auto parts store. It's small so it would hopefully help at the start of a fire, but nothing major. It stays in the center box behind the seats. It's important to remember too that these things don't have a permanent "shelf life". If you get one with a gauge, then you can see what the status is. If you get the smaller ones that don't have a guage, then you need to replace these. I was told annually and the cost of one of these once a year is much less than losing the entire car.

I have one. Mine is too big to fit in the rear storage compartment, so I have it just in front of the passanger seat (it comes with a holder that you screw to the floor).

Here's something I recommend from Painless Wiring http://www.painlesswiring.com/ . Mount it close to the battery or under hood on the starter side of the engine and mount the switch out of sight close to the driver. If smoke starts to roll just flip the toggle switch and your battery is disconnected. This is a lot better than the ones that mount on the battery terminal. You have instant access to the switch. You can also flip it off for storage, parking and theft deterent without getting your hand dirty.

REMOTE MASTER DISCONNECT KIT

#30204 - The right way to disconnect your battery - with a simple toggle switch. This new kit uses a small toggle switch to activate a 250 amp continuous duty solenoid instead of a big dirty battery mounted switch. The small toggle can be easily hidden almost anywhere on your car for security purposes. Solenoid mounts anywhere along the positive battery cable run. Kit includes toggle, solenoid, wiring, switch fuse, battery cable terminals and mounting hardware.

Go to any NCRS meet and you will find just about every Vette on the show field has an extinguisher and a quick disconnect for the battery. Why? Because they have had "incidents" in the past too, therefore, every Corvette being judged gets a few "brownie" points for these two items.

Every since we started Corvette club racing 25 years ago, we've kept an extinguisher in every one of our vehicles. When I was a street cop, we regularly put the ones kept in the cruisers to good use. There's also one in the house and the garage even though the city we live in requires that homes have sprinker systems.

Fortunately, I've only used it once to help another motorist . . .but given the modest price, I'd put it in the trunk along with battery cables and first aid kit.

I've got one in the storage behind the seats. I've also got a screw-type battery disconnect for when the car is unattended. . .

I think I should take this as a sign to go get one! Any brand or kind I should look for? How much $$ are we talking -just out of curiousity, the vette is definitely worth it, not to mention the time I've invested in it!

I don't have one, but I really really should! I hate to admit it, but sometimes I don't bother to disconnect the battery. :(

On top of that I have a Holley carb!

I don't really want to hook up anything complex. Perhaps I'll get something I can just put on the battery terminal.

Fire Extinguisher

I keep one behind the seats in the T-top storage area. Have had it there forever. Bought it from California Car Cover Co. It is a nice chrome one. Never had to use it--knock wood.

I read this and promplty put one in mine. Didn't even think about it before seeing this, thanks for bringing it up.

I have one. Keep in nestled between the passenger seat back and the transmission tunnel. Stays put.....never had a problem with it moving around. It is small and would last about 15 seconds, but any problem requiring more than that is probably too much for me to handle. I do not recall where I got it, but I've seen similar ones at the auto parts stores.
