Can you tell me about how many 65 SB convertables are out there? Not how many were made, but how many are left on the road?

Thanks,
Bo

P.S. I'm still working on the front end problems from previous post; I'll let you know....

Don't give any info to the 63-67 registry

Bo,
Noticed your request. If you look down about 15 treads you will see someone wanting info for "1963 Registy - How do you get it started".
What I pointed out in that thread was: there is a web site called 1963-67 Corvette Registry. This site will take all of your information about your car, but will never share anything. I can see them blocking personal information, but whats the harm with showing how my 65's are left or other non-personal info?
So please beware... They offer "reserve" spots at the car shows (biggie wow-wow :eyerole ) for your efforts. I wish people would get the word out not to share them info, if they're not willing to share some of theirs. :mad

Re:

I have offered to build a '63 Registry in the same format as I have done with the 1959 Corvette Registry, but advised the individual who inquired to me that they should contact the '63-'67 Registry first so they are aware. I do not want to create any conflict, but I agree that you should be able to view where the cars have ended up since they rolled off of the assembly line. The cars I have listed on the '59 Registry are from individuals who are either selling their car, which is intended for public knowledge anyway, or for those who have willingly contacted me to include their car.

Actually, Quite a few of the members here belong to the '63 to '67 Registry, GM also asks for your VIN number if you ask for there restoration package, maybe they will give you the info :D The original question would be impossible to answer, alot of theese cars are owned by older people who do not use computers, I know my father has a '65 and a '66 and only uses the computer for work, I doubt that it will ever be known how many are left.

So, don't knock the Registry,
Tom

Re:

Hi Tom,

I agree with your theory on the fact that alot of the car owners aren't big internet users- That is why I am the one who maintains the records on the '59 Registry, rather than simply setting up the site for people to register on their own. I have been called by owners, faxed pictures of their cars, all kinds of different means have been provided to me to include owners' cars- I'm glad to help them out to get their cars recognized.

As for the '63-'67 Registry, I'm sure there are many registrants on the site. It would just be nice for other enthusiasts to be able to see how many are out there and where they are located in the world.. I was completely blown away to find out how many '59's have ended up in other countries like Australia, the Netherlands, Canada, and even Denmark! Those are the types of things I'm sure other owners and enthusiasts would like to know. You might want to pass that along to the administrators of the '63-'67 site, as it would greatly enhance the amount of recognition the site receives. Just a thought..

Jim

Tom,
I too have registered my car with the registry.... After I did, I realized that they're only in the take, take mode (much like my neighbours borrowing my tools) :L What harm is it to share information? My question is I'm trying to figure out what you get by registering your car? (besides a parking spot)... Can you tell me?
At least here at the Corvette Action Center we share our thoughts and ideas... None of this "Knowledge is Power" stuff is found here....
So yes, I am knocking the Registry.

Re:

Tom,

This is my last statement on this thread and then I'm letting it go- On the '59 Registry, I have the owner of the oldest '59 in existence, car #0003, on display. As you can imagine, the car is quite valuable- He has been very happy to have his car displayed on the site for others to admire and appreciate. And guess what- He's in the States, and has been on the site since October 2003, and has managed not to have his car stolen from him yet.. I personally feel that you are increasing your chances of protecting your car, as others in your region may be able to assist if the car has been stolen, especially today with tools like the internet and forums like this one at CAC.

I hate to say it, but if someone wants your car bad enough to steal it, they'll find a way. If it's not on a website, guaranteed they'll locate it through other means. More often than not, those who steal the cars are professionals who have tracked the vehicle for some time.

For those of you who enjoy the '59 Registry as it is, I thank you for the positive feedback, and will continue to share the details of further cars as I locate them. For anyone who thinks it's a bad idea to display a car's details online (that were offered voluntarily) for others to appreciate, hey, it's a free country- You are entitled to having your say.

Jim

PS: no grudges held here! I was just enjoying the debate!! :D

Chip Millers Le Mans car was found by submitting the vin to DMVs in different states until the requestor got a hit. So unless the car is not registered (even then the last registration may be aval) it can be found.

Just because I am paranoid does not mean someone is not out to get me.

Re:

Tyler,

Funny you mention that car- Any idea what they have done with it since Chip is no longer with us? I can't remember if it ended up in the Corvette Museum or not.

I have not heard anything on what Lance and Judy intend to do with the cars outside of the one to be auctioned at the Corvette at Carslile this month. I am sure whatever they decide would be something Chip would have done.
