Say you have a ZZ454, how much of a nitrous shot can you give it so that the engine can handle the extra hp? I'm reading a little about nitrous and it says that a 75 - 100 shot is safe on stock engines, but I don't know if a crate engine falls under the "stock" category. I'm not sure about the quality of engine parts in those.

Any ideas?

car craft about a year ago force fed up to 450 hp worth of funny gas through a stock 50,000 mile 73 vintage 350 before it gave up with a broken ring land on a pistion. so 150 to 200 shot shouldent hurt it as long as everthing with the tune up is right. BTW car craft ran it lean thus the broken parts.

it SO depends on the internals of the motor. most crate engines are not built to live at higher HP then they come as. a 330 HO motor will come apart if you push it much over 400 HP. basically motor builders are getting close to the ragged edge when you look at the dependability of a build. some places overbuild motors with super strong parts and de-tune them to fit "drivability issues" the buyers want. problem with option two is the motors are more expensive and guys opt for the "cheaper" motor that makes the same power. your example of the ZZ454, i would not put more than 150 shot at it. a lot of heat and cylinder pressure happens with NO2, so be cautious of what you build. I thought that NOS is a cooling agent as well? I heard that it not only adds power but it's sort of a combustion cooler.

You should be able to push a 150 shot down the throat of any small block if you don't short cut it.

The drive train is another ?
