i put mine in the shop to be restored..and realized that at todays prices you could find a ragged C4 and have it restored..and still have less invested than in any C5

NOT TRUE AT ALL! AGAIN I BOUGHT MY 87 IN AUG '08 WITH 49K MILES IT RUNS EXCELLENT. PAID $ 7,500.00. IT NEEDED VERY LITTLE. IN ADDITION TO THE PRICE I DROPPED ANOTHER $5,000.00. SO I AM INTO THIS CAR FOR AT LEAST $13,000.00 AND COUNTING AND I AM DOING ALL THE WORK MYSELF. IT COULD BE PAINTED BUT I AM NOT SURE THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. SO MY POINT IS...YOU COULD SPEND A HELL OF ALOT MORE ON THE RESTORATION OF A VETTE IF YOU DO IT RIGHT AND BRING IT BACK TO STOCK CONDITION. I GOT A QUOTE TO REPAINT MY VETTE FROM A LOCAL BODY SHOP WHO WAS PAINTING AN '85 VETTE. WITH OUT LOOKING AT MY VETTE HIS QUOTE WAS "$10,000.00". HE IS OUT OF HIS ^%$#@#% MIND. I UNDERSTAND A REALLY GOOD PAINT WILL COST! BUT HOW MUCH DO YOU PUT IN THE VETTE? WHEN DO YOU SAY WHEN? I KNOW WE DO IT FOR US BUT, WHEN DOES IT COME DOWN TO HOW MUCH CAN YOU REALLY OR SHOULD INVEST IN THE CAR? NUFF SAID!:cool:w

You are not looking hard enough!

Lots of C5s at resonable cost depending on where you live.

As Paulie B states restorations are expensive. My '93 Z07 was purchased in 2005 with 47,770 miles, for 14K.
I have put over 8K into it and all work with the exception minor paint work which was handled at my friend's bodyshop was done by me.
Should have bought a C5.....

all you have to do is price a bunch of C5's and you may be counting your blessings..
you have a rare ride that you know better than anyone:beer

A Restoration, in my mind, is taking the car apart an putting EVERYTHING back to factory specs. What is usually done is a REFURBISHMENT. The car has interior replaced, painted and all mechanical and elctrical systems put in excellent working condition. A Restoration is not driven and a refurbished car is.

Let's say you got the car for free and had $15,000 to spend to restore a C4. Call it 25% parts and 75% labor. That would give you 187 hours of shop time or 5 or 6 man-weeks at $60/hr. I bet you could get a new interior, rebuilt suspension and either new paint or a rebuilt driveline, but not both for that amount of money. No where near a full restored car.

if id have known there was going to be a test, i would have studied:confused

89blackvett,

Mine has been torn down completely, top to bottom, front to back. Anything and everything questionable was replaced. Only driven to one car show a year, sees about 12 miles a year. Has it been restored??? maybe, maybe not...

If you want to see how much a new c4 is worth, watch the re-runs of the Mecum Auto Aution where all they did was Vettes... I remember a few "new" C4 Vettes. One pace car (95 Vert) had 6 miles on it and was never titled... I dont remember what it went for but there you go!:cool:beer

LET ME RE-PHRASE THAT....lol

not that it hasnt been fun , so far..:beer

i put my car in a resoration shop to be brought back up to specs....
no paint
no engine swaps
no tricks
just stock specs..
the bottom line in the whole affair is 10,000 bucks..
and with rims and rubber and some interior about 12,000
high millage,120,000 but not really
i had a GMC Astro vand vuith 285,000 and it will start today, ...maybe..
so i am confident it will take US to anywhere in America and back home again and again..

GOD BLESS AMERICA
:w

I guess you didnt really price too many C5s.

So you are paying other people to work on your car and you know it better than anyone? Do you mean you know where the money went better than anyone maybe?

.
i have physical limitations as to prevent me from doing it myself...not as though i havent been there done that
i had some wiring faults repaired and some general maintainance done that had been neglected, nothing major...
but it had been repaired half assed for a long time...
the motor man told me my engine had been babied and had no issues..yay
btw..the engine /dyno tuner man also told me the 99 and up C5 was "the choice" for a fast , easy to hot rod corvette.... congratulations:beer

In every type of market wether it be cars, furniture, or homes, there are various degrees of restoration....

What exactly are you having done?

My question too...

A shop? To restore? What are we talking about here? Body OFF frame? Is this being videotaped? Estimates? This is interesting here...
