Can anyone tell me how to bench test my C1 generator to see if it is putting out voltage/amps? I rebuilt it a while back but haven't tested it. Body is off car, motor is working in chassis but I only have enough wiring hooked up to start & run the motor off the battery. The generator is properly mounted to the motor so the fan will function. Thanks for any help.

Don't believe you can bench test a generator. How would you turn the pulley a few thousand rpms? It's got to be hooked up to a voltage regulator too.

Years ago, auto parts stores used to have generator/alternator tester machines. You could bring in your suspect generator or alternator, and hook it up to this machine that would test the output. Call around.

Glad you mentioned that. There is a small motor repair shop near by that I will check out. They supposedly work on just about any kind of electric motor, I'll give them a try.

Generator test

I agree about the electric motor shop. I had some trouble with a "newly rebuilt" generator that I bought form one of the better known catalog stores and took it to a alternator/elctric motor shop. They fixed it up quick and in a hurry for relatively cheap.

Good luck,
Bernie O.

I belive that in the the olden days, generators were easy to test. Put power to it and it should motor if all is O.K. Then along came alternators and made stuff difficult.

Yes, someone else told me to "motor" it too. Maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks
