So I got the JCWhitney sidepipes in and they are beautiful! They look fantastic! I really dont want to damage to them and I dont want to make a mistake and do some non-reversable adjustment that costs me more money. The instructions that came w/ them are written by someone whose first language is not english and are extremely vague on top of that.

There were some previous posts and pics but now all the pics are gone.:mad Can someone detail to me how to mount these badboys to the 81' please. I stared at it for an hour and couldnt figure it out. Probably since Im very hesitant to cut the rocker panels w/o knowing how exactly they need to be trimmed. THe headers Ill put on later this week though. I wont have time for that till friday becuase I know everything that can go wrong will w/ that. Thanks guys

Mac, first slide the headpipe and muffler tube together.you may want to wrap the main assembly in a towel to prevent scratches.
once assembled to the correct length"63 " i believe! then use some scrap wood to block the assy to the bottom side of the rocker. i had already installed the mounting brackets on the pipes, then with a bit of spray paint,over-sprayed the brackets to give a location on the chassis for mounting.
make sure you get the pipes far enough outward to clear the rocker panel.then if you want you can see which dummy pipes can be cut back. this will allow the pipes to fit against the panel tighter and higher if you want that.
by cutting the dummies to fit ,it will appear they are going thru the rocker panel not just under.

if you still have questions shoot me an email, and i'll give you a phone # you can call me tomorrow.

Mac:
Check with "Robin7TFour" - he's extremely talented and did an awesome job with the same brand of side pipes on his blue 74 coupe.. . or take a quick trip to Orlando and prepare to be "wow-ed" ! I'm certain he'd be happy to share his exeprience.

Sorry Robin - - didn't realize you were on-line and providing an answer at the same time ! I just "volunteered" you !

Rollie, can i hire you as my personal business manager? you do a better job 'promoting' me,than i can ever do myself. i really do appreciate what you say! sincerely.
i am glad we put the futon in the computer room,so all my WOW guest will have a place to rest their weary heads! i love you guys!!always make me smile

Yep I saw this and thought of Robin also, you should have taken photos and done a step by step :D

You have Harleys TOO?! Geez....

Yeah but Robin wants me to cut my pretty chrome pipes that I just bought and I dont want to. :cry How can we do it w/o cutting them. Do I just scoot the pipes further up towards the front tire? Youre gonna have to show me pics of how these hangers attach and connect to the pipes cuz this stuff is confusing me and Im being a total wus about damaging them.

What about just ditching the rocker panels? Theres gonna be a 3.5inch pipe there so you wont see behind them anyways. THen I wont have to cut anything right?

Mac, ditching the rockers is another possiblity.i kept mine on,but that's my taste. or....if you find some used and abused rockers you could trim them to fit around the pipes, then color-match to fit your paint.

Craig sr. i know i should have photo-documented,but once i got rolling it was hard to put everything aside . then clean up photo and start again. besides Disney spoiled me. we have staff photogs that do all that for us!

Rollie, the electraglide is always ready to ride.just have to stop by. and if you ask Sandie nice, she might let you ride her superglide

best to all

Mac, also about the hangers. follow the directions for putting them on the pipes. rubber grommets and bolts. once that's done, just flip them up or down depending on the clearance you want/need.
i had the car on jack stands and used two floor jacks to get the rough position of where i wanted the pipes and where the brackets would mount on the frame.i used a bit of spray paint to locate the mounting points.
then center punched the location marks and drilled and tapped the frame. after i was satisfied with the fit and location, etc, i put a small bead of weld on each bracket for extra measures

just like doing the jitter-bug,simple dance if you know where your feet are going

Thanks Robin, Ill have to shoot you an email tomorrow and get your number so you can maybe talk me through it. I didnt get a chance to gander at it today but tomorrow its on.
