So to get the rear spindle out of the trailing arm, do I need to buy the spindle knocker from one of the corvette supply houses or is there a way to do it on the cheap?

Tom

Tom, you definately need the proper tools for this job. i used a spindle knocker on mine.didn't thread it down far enough and ruined the spindle anyway. eventually i will buy the more expensive threaded press tool. or if i can, copy one at work.
once you get the spindle out, have a machine shop turn the journal down slightly. make it a lighter press fit. it will be easier to install and remove in the future.
also ,IMO, you should purchase the bearing set-up tooling. i made my own and it simplifies getting the right shims for setting the bearing freeplay.
good luck

p.s i am on the west side of orlando if you need something

How did you make your own bearing setup tool?

Where on the west side of town are you, I can always use help, especally when it's from somone who has done it before. It speeds things quite a bit.

Tom,

Check out our supporting vendor:

www.Fastcorvette.com

You can buy or rent all the tools for changing the spindle. There is also a "Spindle installation school" under the picture of the tools.
After having rebuilt over a hundred trailing arms this year I have learned two things:
The threaded press tool has a bad tendacy to bend the caliper bracket and
the hardest spindle to remove is the original one from the factory. The secret to the spindle knocker is screw it on tight, hit it a couple times, and then re-tighten it.
