I'm new here and just finishing a resto-mod 58 (after 42 years of owning it in baskets!)
It has a 62 283 that was originally a hypo factory experimental but most of that has been removed in rebuilding. It currently is bored 60 over, flat top pistons, a mild cam, electronic ignition, and the original 2x4 alum intake w/ crossover. Will be used as a street driver only but want a bit if performance. I'm trying to figure out what size/type of carbs to use for this set up. I understand they don't need to be large carbs but any advise regarding size, choke, mech or vac secondary, etc would be appreciated. I'm assuming they want to be sim to the orig carter AFB maybe?
Thanks for any help you can lend.

Welcome to the CAC.

The original carbs were Carter WCFB units. There was a dedicated front and rear carb and the numbers varied according to the original application. Basically they were pretty much alike though; mechanical secondary, auto choke on the rear carb only. AFBs/Edelbrocks will not bolt on to this original manifold without an adapter. Correct type WCFBs can be found online restored but they are not cheap. Even ones needing restored are in demand by the restorers and the price reflects that.

Summit and others offer complete dual 4bbl setups from Edelbrock that take the guessing out of matching everything up. I fear you would end up with way too much carb for a 283 with one of these setups.

Thanks Tom!
This helps a lot. I'm thinking aftermarket, not restored originals for now. They are rather pricey.
