I was lookin for a 73 corvette motor and came accross one that a guy says came out of a 73. How do i know for sure. The # stamped on the front of the block is K or its R 0524cmp and the head casting #s are 3998993 . I want to put a 73 vette mtr back in the back in the car.

Check out this thread:

Looks like you might be in business. Hope this helps!!:D

I'm confused. Your signature says your car is a big block, but the head casting numbers you quote are for a small block???

In any case, the motor you found is not from a '73 Corvette. Two reasons-

1) The stamp pad starts with "K" which is for engines made at the McKinnon factory in St. Catherines. No Corvette motors were ever made there. A Corvette motor would have "V" for Flint if it's a small block, or "T" for Tonawanda if it's big block.

2) the assembly code CMP is not from a '73 Corvette. It would have to be one of the codes listed in the link above

Unless you're going the NCRS judging route, why bother with the numbers any way? No matter what you install it will still be a non-original-motor car.

PS. In case you're interested, the NCRS Nationals are being held in Windsor at the end on this month.

Wow, the CMP suffix is for a '91 L98 with automatic out of a 91 Firebird. 245 hp engine with TPI. But that is just the block.

The heads, 3998993, are either off of a 72-73 307/350 (75cc chambers) or off of a current GM crate motor (if marked with "Hecho en Mexico") also 75cc chambers.

Looks as if it is a mix and match engine.

Sorry about the signature I have to figure out how to change it to L48. When we got the car it had all of the 454 badging on it but when we ran the vin we found out it was a 350 L48 car. We were a little dissapointed but its still a chrome bumper car at least on the rear. So we are still happy besides whats the alternative ? sad . forget it . Its a Vette. So its all good.
