HUD Fade ?

After 3 years, it appears that the HUD in my 03 AE is fading.

The display just isn't as bright as I remember it to be - or am I losing it?

Has anyone else noticed their HUD fading? If so, is there a fix?

I also have a 2003, and my HUD is not fading. It's as bright as I remember it being.

Have you (very gently) cleaned the projector surface recently?

Not trying to be funny - but did you make sure the brightness slider switch is at maximum brightness?

Is the HUD window glass or plastic, and what is safe to clean it with? I've been just wiping with a soft cloth, but at some point it's bound to need a better cleaning. :confused

Yeap, tried that.
I'm going to take a closer look at cleaning the HUD projector glass and see if that helps (along with the windshield inside).

The 03 is my wife's car and I don't drive it that much - so I may be spoiled by the quality of the C6 HUD in my new car.

Does she smoke in the car? :eek Tobacco smoke will put a film on the glass pretty quick.;squint:

She doesn't smoke and she doesn't allow anyone else smoking in the car. Good point though.

Tuna---
I'd be interested to hear what happens after you clean the projector lens.

I've often looked down, through the windshield at the HUD lens and wondered what happens when it get dusty.

Tuna, I know this probably isn't the cause, but I noticed something interesting yesterday.
I got behind the wheel with a new pair of prescription sunglasses that are polarized. The HUD was barely visible, even at the highest brightness setting. It took me a minute to realize it was the sunglasses that were filtering it out.

I used a lint free computer screen cloth and cleaned the HUD projection lens - it helped. It is brighter now. Not as bright as my memory would like it to be but better. I used a little computer screen cleaning solution on the cloth and wiped it gently.

I've heard that but I'm still wearing the same bifocal glasses with transition lens that I have been wearing for 2 years. So, I don't think that is my issue.

Susan doesn't complain about it but she drives it a lot more than I do - so, I don't know if it's my eyes or hers. :confused

Was the windshield ever replaced? I believe the HUD windshield might be different than non HUD.

Nope - just the way it came from the factory.
