:confused I have a 2000 Black C-5 Coupe that I purchased about 4 moths ago. The HUDS bezel is a little off set and I see a slight gap in the dash, and just appears to be slightly cocked on the dash. It is not a big deal and you can hardly tell it; but I would like to straighten it up. What does it take to remove this bezel trim piece on top of the dash that trims out the Heads-Up-Display Unit? Does this just pop in with clips or what? I hate to just start prying on it without know what holds it in place. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. If you have pictures of this that would be outstanding. I even talked to my local dealer and they printed some information from GM, but it really doesn't tell me much and the Service Manager assumed it just popped out with some kind of clip; but he didn't know for sure!

Thanks,
Bill

HI there,
You would have to remove the upper dash pad in order to reorientate the bezel and the HUD.
Its does NOT just pop out, because it is physically attached to the HUD module.

Thank you very much for getting back to me. Removing the dash pad to do this seems to me to be pretty major. The HUD unit itself does not appear to be crooked just the trim or bezel that covers it on top of the dash pad. I have kind of looked at the procedures to remove the dash pad and it appears to be a major operation in itself. This bezel be miss-aligned or crooked on the dash other than driving me nuts everytime I see it doesn't really hurt anything. What would cause it to get this way? Have you ever removed the dash pad to do something like this; or would you for just this? Is there absolutely no way to straighten it around without removing the dash pad?

Thanks again,
Bill

Hi there,
I cannot answer why it would be crooked.
Yes, it takes about 1 hour to remove and install the pad for a professional.
A back yard owner may take 2 hours.

HUDS SYSTEM R&R for 2000 C-5 Coupe

I am not presently a professional; but use to be a licsense mechanic well over 20 some odd years ago, so it may take me most of the day. Can I remove the dash pad without removing the instruments and etc. or does all that have to come out at the same time? I am going to get some detailed instructions before I start; do you have anything like this? Most of my mechanic career was back when we had points and condensors if that tells you how long ago.

Thanks for the reply back,

Thanks,
Bill

HI there,
Both A pillar trim panels first, pull toward the center of the car.
Then, center console, with assorted 10mm, 7mm and T15 torx fasteners,
2 T15 fasteners to the bezel for the cluster to the upper IP pad.
Pop out defroster grille and remove 2 7mm screws.
Then, 7mm screws at many location points throughout the IP pad.
Pull the pad toward the rear of the car and up, while a helper releases the tab that is behind the glovebox. And then disconnect the hazard switch.
That should be it, and be patient, as you will have to move things around to get it out.
I like removing the roof to ease removal of the pad.

I have the same problem. It is minor, but annoying. I don't think I will be removing the dash pad to fix it though. Have you thought about asking an interior upholsterer to attach some type of trim around the bezel? I'm thinking of some sort of leather "rope" that could be glued around the perimeter of the bezel and cover the gap. My gap is probably only 1/32" but yours may be larger.

Dave Boy,
Mine is not much more than 1/32 or maybe an 1/8" no one else sees it but me I think' but I don't like it but removing the old dash pad, intruments and etc. seems to be pretty, drastic, diffficult and teatious work for just this. I have thought of doing something but didn't know what becasue it really bothers me. Then one day I was looking through a Mid-American Motor Works catalog and came acroos a capeted dash pad that is available with or without the HUD cut out. So I ordered one of these going to see what that looks like first, seems to be the simplest thing to do. It is basicly dash carpet with felt trim around the edges and held on with 3M adhesive strips. The one I ordered has the C-5 emblem ebroidered in the middle area. Also suppose to save the dash from cracking and sun damage. Thought it was worth a try at least :confused . Like I said everything works alright and removing basicly the whole dash seemed to me a lot of work for no more than this hurts. Let me know what you come up with.

What part of Bama you from? Is your 2000 a coupe or roadster? Is it a 6-speed or auto. what color is it? Wonder if this is just caractoristic of the model year 2000? Wonder is GM knows what caused this to happen? Can't really tell if the dash pad around it just came loose, shrunk or the HUDS unit moved; it is not loose or anything, so maybe the dash pad itself pulled away from the HUD unit, not real sure what happen here. If you find out anything else let me know for sure!

hud problem

hey bill, how did you make out with the hud, i have the same problem and don't want to remove the dash to fix, i had the column lock problem and think maybe the dealer had the dash apart and screwed up the hud but i didn't notice it until spring, my dash was repaired in october. dealer says the dash was not removed to repair column lock but i don't believe it.
thanks for the info
