Humming from drivers side rear? (above wheel well)?

Hi,
I recently bought my 3rd C5 (this one is a 98 w/36K). There is a high pitched humming sound coming from the drivers side rear around the wheel well (as soon as you turn on the car and not even moving). The sound is contant even when cruising down the highway. I presume it is something electrical because I noticed that when I put the blinker on, it hums up and down with the blinker. Or when I press down on the window button (when it is already up), it will bring the hum to a deeper pitched hum (also all the lights dim a little bit when I do that). I recall that sound a little bid with at least 1 of my other C5's, but not nearly as pronounced. Anyone know what that? What can I do to fix it? Thanks!

That sound is probably the fuel pump. It is located on the fuel cell behind the drivers seat. I don't think there is much that you can do to quiet it other than replacement.

Yep, fuel pump - annoying but harmless (TSB here).

Someone told me to change the fuel filter...

I was told by the dealer that since I have 37K miles and it is whining that loud that the 30K mile servicing probably wasn't done. He said that it gets continually worse as you approach 40K. Anyway, he said that if I changed the fuel filter than it would lessen the sound quite a bit. Does this sound right? Is it hard/expensive to do that?

Why suffer any longer...don't just look for a "bandaid fix"...replace the fuel pump assembly like GM says to do and get on with your life...:L

My car has 31,000 miles and no whining from the fuel pump.

It was more of a problem with the early C5's. My '97 was quite loud. I decided to just live with it.

I had that monotonius humming sound coming from my 91 this weekend. Then I took the wife home and went for a spin by myself and it stopped!!!! ;)
