I have been hunting down a hi-pitched sound under the hood. I changed out the following:

Belts: A/C, Serpentine

Pulleys: A/C Tension, Serpentine Idle pulley and Tension.

I think it's coming from the alternator but it's really hard to tell. After changing the A/C belt I laid under the car (while it was running) it seemed the noise was coming from the direction of the alternator. If it's the alternator how would I check it and if it's some thing else that you can think of let me know. Right now it's at low rpm around 1-1 1/2. I have been chasing this thing for 2 weeks.

Thanks everyone!

Henry

I was hunting down a high pitched sound under the hood last year. It turned out that my water pump was on its way out. Have you tried removing the serpentine belt and spining the various pullies by hand?

I'll remove the serpentine belt and spin the various pullies by hand and see what I get. I'm also guessing that the lower balancer is the biggest pulley.... if so it does have a slight wobble. Should I replace it or is there something else you recommend?
