Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

I haven't seen this one posted yet...

I dunno.... thanks for the link though. Its really cool when people tie links directly so that the rest of us can see what's out there.

I think I like the DAKOTA DIGITAL series better. The blue is monochromatic but still pretty cool. Personnally, I don't like the green and red '70's Cray Super Computer theme LEDs of the summit parts. They look more like "digital" should look. Maybe even better than that. BAD NEWS IS THAT THEY ARE TWICE THE COST.

Analog seems to flip back and forth as the primary gauges over the years for Corvettes. This is especially with the C4 era cars. They are digital, digi-log, and in the last incarnation- back to analog. GO FIGURE.

they do look nice, but i like the stock gauges, then again never say never, if i see some nice ones for a 76 i just might get them :)

I wish SOMEBODY had already tried these!

A Nordskog main panel and an auxillary panel I have yet to design are Item #7c3.b on my "Interior Of The Gods List, As Appended."

Nordskog comes in three basic colors - a "cyanish," out-and-out green and amber - red is available for some things, but not True Blue, which I also favor. They DO make these for early C3's too, not just post-'77's, but you may have to go to their homepage.

Dakota Digital and Dolphin also offer complete lines, and others do specific gauges. I believe "CyberDyne" (who made my Air/Fuel gauges) are a division of Nordskog now.

I want the Nordskog for two reasons:
1) The huge circular design of their speedometer and tachometer, with multicolored range indicators, as well as the digits themselves, which I feel beats up badly on Dakota Digital's straight bar. (Even though I wish it was available in the pure blue of the DD's.)
2)Nordskog's huge rep with the StreetRod, Custom Rod and Land Speed freaks. Before Dedenbear, Nordskog was THE source for domestic Data Acquisition and other higher-end vehicle electronics (early '70's.) Now many companies offer good products (including these gauges.)

My big concern with all of them is I would like to know how subject to direct sunlight washout they are - how bright they are at 4:30PM when you're flying northeast like a low altitude interceptor across a burning Texas landscape in August with the sun pouring in over your left shoulder (where you sit in icy cold comfort in your 170 degree front seat, because you're insane and in a vette with terrible (or no) A/C...) :Silly

I have seen these panels in custom rods for years, but never recessed like in a vette. I am therefore stupid enough that once I get the OD, the Vintage A/C and some minor engine upgrades on the temporary baby block crate motor, I guess I'll find out...

Of course if you got yours now, since you are ready now Mister! you would do me a huge service! I'd be your best buddy even! I might even remember you when I write my will - wouldn't put you in it of course, but I might remember you when I wrote it! :love

I know I'm out of my element here, seein' as how I have a C4, but since I started this thread... :L

I've been toying with the idea of swapping my digital cluster out for analog gauges ala George Crouse.

Anyhow, I've been checking out both ISSPRO and Westach. Both are good gauges; ISSPRO makes gauges for the trucking industry while Westach makes automotive as well as aircraft gauges. The neat thing about Westach is that they offer dual, triple and quad gauge setups, as well as multi-function gauges. Check 'em out by clicking their respective links. ;)

I was thinking about the digital gauges myself but then I mentioned it to a buddy of mine and he said that he made that conversion several years back and hated it so much he changed it back. He said that the digital gauges fluctuated so much that it gave him a headache and played mind games with his head. That may have been the technology of yesteryear though as I'm sure things have improved over the years but I sure would hate to spend the money on em unless I had seen someone else that had em.

Just a thought

Hey Guys... I'm new here, but thought that I could chime in on this.

I bought and installed the Nordskog gauges in my 76 when they were still Intellitronix about 3 years ago. Since then the car was totalled by a hit and run driver and I now have a metallic yellow 73 being converted to TPI. (Off topic but figured that since I'm new I'd fill in)

I was one of the first to install the setup in an early C3 and they actually used photos of my install on their website for a while. I also made many changes in their instructions based on my experiences.

I have photos if anyone wants them. I don't have anywhere to host them right now, but I can email or answer any questions that you may have. :):)

For the record... I loved them, they were very different and at the time a LOT cheaper than they are now. I debated doing it again in the 73, but I think that I am going to go analog with Boyd Coddington gauges this time. The TPI will make the car different enough. ;)

Email on the way :)

Feel free to host them and post them if you want. I'm working on getting a new image hosting site.

there definitley different looking, kind of dark though.

They are dark in that photo.

One of the reasons that I am not going with them in the 73 is that they can be VERY difficult to see in bright sunlight, even with the bright red color. At night they are cool, a reddish glow to the interior, and when they are off, they are all blacked out.

But... they can be tough to see.
