Well I was finally able to finish installing all the fiberglass parts on my present 63 project. Spent most of the day yesterday getting the front stainless windshield trim, adjusted correctly in place.

looks great! :)
throw a little paint on her and she will be done huh? :D

how's the rolling chassis coming along? this is the car that's getting the BB572 motor? Are you going with the SR111 tube frame or the stock frame?

Bob,
Do you have the engine on a stand in the correct area? Looks like the legs are between the jackstands.

The car is looking great nice work,

Change of heart

Actually this is the car the 572 will be going into, however I have had a change of heart as far as the chassis is concerned.

I had purchased every available heavy duty suspension part to use on the regular chassis of this Corvette, but I have since changed my mind as far as the way the build will be done

I have just purchased an SRIII frame to use under this car so there will not be much going on regarding the chassis, until I pick it up at the upcoming Corvette show in Carlisle. Right now I am in the process of sourcing all the necessary parts to complete the frame, so by the time the show rolls around, I should have everything to complete it.

do you already have the source for all the C4 (i assume C4) suspension parts?
are you purchasing all new parts or buying used parts to refinish?

I may have a good place for you to pick up used C4 parts for the suspension if you are interested. This palce is a corvette only salvage yard and has hundreds of C4's sitting around. I was amazed as I walked thru the place!

Nope, what you are seeing are wheel adapters I made, that bolt to any regular Corvette frame. This way even is it doesen't have any of it's suspension, I can still move it around the garage any time I need to. These are the exact same wheel adapters that are used on my body dollies.

Barry,

I have already purchased a complete NOS C5 front suspension setup from Shaun at SMC Performance http://www.smcperformance.com/ for a VERY GOOD PRICE. As we speak, it has already been delivered to a very prominent, and respectable Forum member, who will be hauling it down to the Carlisle show for me.:D

As for The rear setup, I have had one person respond to my request, but nothing has been done so far. I am looking for a rear setup with a Dana 44, but don't need the spring setup, nor the calipers, rotors , etc, so it is a little hard to find exactly what I need, in a low millage donor. Any help would be appreciated.

The last issue regarding the C4, would have to be the delivery issue. With the price of cross border shipping with any of the transport company's being out of the question, it ( the C4 setup ) has to be available for Carlisle pickup, other wise the cost to ship wouldn't make it affordable for me.

Holy mackerel, a published opinion that I'm both prominent and respectable; I'll have to remind my wife ;LOL . I saw it on the internet, so it must be true ;)

P.S. Did you have a look at all the cool stuff in the box. ? ;)

Bob,
You may want to start on cutting the rear floor out and building a new one while you are waiting for the chassis to come in. I presume that you are going to "tub" the wheelwells a little to take advantage of the bigger rubber.
My SRIII frame is of stock dimensions since you can't tub a convertible car, but I can send you the dimensions of where the floor needs to be. I even built a mold to attach to the car, to build the new floor into. Rich Lagasse is also doing a 63 coupe with a SRIII narrow frame and small tubs, and can really give you some good measurments and pics of how he moved his wells in.

John,

When I originally spoke to Mike to place my order, the first thing he said we should address, was the narrowing of the rear rails. At the time I told him that it would not be needed because I had already installed wider rear fenders ( see pic ), and that I would be able to get the large tire size I wanted to mount. However , after a few days I had second thoughts, and realized that along with the wide fenders, if I had the rails narrowed as per Mike's first recommendation, that I could get massive amounts of rubber under the car.

Well this is what I ended up deciding, and got right back to Mike to inform him that the labor to narrow the rails should be undertaken.

As far as your dimensions for the new floor pan, I would welcome the measurements you mentioned in this post. Rich has sent me a few photos, which I have pinned up in the garage next to the car, and will be undertaking the cuts, as soon as I can get the car off it's frame, and back on the body dolly. I will appreciate any additional help that could come my way as the build goes on.

Best regards
Bob

One of these days, someone should undertake the process of having an SRIII renunion setup at the Corvette show in Carlisle. I have no doubts it would be one héll of a head turner

John,

Bob and I have had a number of phone conversations and e-mail exchanges when he was deciding on the new frame and I sent him pictures of the body mods needed. Hopefully it will help give him a few more body work projects to do with his free time. :L
