I need your opinions. I currently have the stock EMT's, the fronts have plenty of tread but the rears need replacement. I want to change to Michelin PIlot sports on the rear only. I am not an aggressive driver and want to know if I will be causing any problems due to the mismatch. I understand that handling will be effected but wouldn't this be at the extreme limits? I would appreciate your thoughts.

I replaced my Goodyear EMT with firestone run flats at 19000,the results were apparent in the 1st mile driven, all 4 tires show the same wear, as the EMT were cupping badly on inside front. I may look into yokohama tires in future, as per Pat Goss NCOA,But so far I am satisfied with the firestones.

my dad did this on his C5... had the stock emt's in the rear, with regular F1 non-EMT's up front... i would say for 5000 miles or so. The car was fine like that. it drove 100 times better, then when he got the rears done, it drove even better with the matching set.

i just got 2 new rear runflats last week. It was 910 dollars including the balance and alignment. Tires were 371 dollars a piece. Not cheap but what a difference in handling!

that is rediculous... you could have saved your money and bought regular, non-runflat tires...

if a tire blows out, you can drive on the rim, and just replace that after you ruin it... and still spend less $$$. (and have a car the rides and handles better)

I have and '87, and bought the Kumho's ($131), and have been very happy.
The trick (learned from hardknocks) is alignment (4 wheel), balance, and tire pressure.
