I just bought my vette last fall and this is the first time I've been able to drive it other than about 6 days in the october. Today I'm at a stop sign and a young kid about 17-18 in a ricer with body mods and a fart can is comming from my left and turning right, slows down and with a big smile on his face says "nice car man" I say thanks with a smile and carry on. A few blocks later a couple of 10 year olds are pointing and waving as I roll by:w. Now my car is far from perfect in a lot of ways but people always look and take notice. I don't have a big need for attention but it is cool when people react just because you're driving a cool looking car. Anyhow just wanted to relay my experience eventhough you guys probably know how it feels.
p.s. change the oil today for first time since I bought it, old oil was black :ugh not good. she feels better now

Now you're cooking. :upthumbs

Know what you mean...I've only put about 3 miles on mine and need to do a chassis restoration before I can really drive it, but same thing, people take notice when a Vette goes by. Guess they are all numb from watching all those Mustangs and 4 cyls cars driving around:ugh you don't see too many older C3's and C2's driving around...lots of newer stuff though.

When my son has his friends over he is always showing them the Vette in the garage or the neighbors come over..."cool car" Its a great feeling that someone else actually takes interest.

I can hardly wait till next spring when I can do some cruising!!:w

The first day I've had a chance to get out and do some spirited driving in the 73, I'm sitting at the stop light next to a nice looking newer Mach with my engine and cam singing him a lullaby. He could kill me easily, but only I knew it. Light turns and he screeches across the intersection and he goes into "impress-my passenger" mode accelerating quickly down the street. Almost immediately after the intersection, I had to turn into the Quickie-Mart to gas up. Bye-bye!! While parked at the pump a nice young fellow no more than 19 or 20 pulled up along side of me and said simply "76?". I shook my head and held up three fingers to indicate a 73. He then said, "Nice car man!" and drove away.

Nice story ..thanks for sharing...I'm sure you'll get more "looks" and "comments" in the future..As we all know, just Something about a corvette!! Let us know the first time a RICER tries to RUN YOU..Thats how I thought your story was going.....I get that often enough...

I had a few looks and waves as I've driven my vette around,It just seems to catch the eye!!!!

Its always cool seeing everyones appreciation of a classic car. I too get all the looks, comments, thumbs up, V signs. Kinda puts you 10 miles high when you've put a lot of time and money into an awesome car. It's definitely worth the payback.

Awesome avatar!

I have to say, I love the thumbs up, and all the comments I get on mine. All my life I've been the one complimenting everyone else's cars at stoplights, so I have to say I dont' mind at all getting attention now that I finally have a car nice enough to grab attention.

I like the young kids look on their faces, you can tell some of them have never seen a C3 before and don't know what to do but stare with their mouths wide open when I pull up to school to let my grandaughter out.Shes real popular with the boys.Thats my kick.

My buddy loves ricer cars. I brought him out for a ride in my vette. And he asked me why people are waving at us and stuff. I said 'Because your in a REAL sports car....' HAHAHAH shoulda seen the stupid look on his face

Have both a C3 and C4. I must say a shark always gets waves and thumbs ups wherever I drive. The C4 is no slouch in the attention getter dept but a chrome bumper C3 people just love!

My daughter (aged 14) loves being dropped off or collected from school in my '73. As was said above, many kids don't even know what a C3 is.

In the same vein, one of my neighbors just said to me "we know when summer's coming because that's when you get the batmobile out."

They are nice cars to enjoy and you wont regret the purchase. I have been enjoying mine since new in 1968 and have never thought of selling it. I looked on the clock {speedometer} a few days ago and found that it only has 28086 miles on the darn thing. I parked it when the gas went crazy in 1973. But I will use it this summer though as we are completely block sanding the whole body as I speak prior to putting a show finish paint on the body. :D

28K miles, original owner, that's incredible.
I hope you really get to enjoy that car this summer. I can't wait to see the pictures when you're done with the restoration. -John

I was in an All-Vette Show this last Saturday. They parked me down at one end of a 70+ vette row. I somehow managed to get my 79 surrounded by C6's,C4's,and C5's,but I noticed most of the day, more poeople wandering by stopped for a closer look, pics, giving compliments, & were asking questions about my lowered dk.red/black interior C3 than my immediate neighbors vettes...especially the younger crowd.:beer

I hear ya zgator... the kids act like they've never seen these before. Every now an then I give some of my friends kids rides. It leaves a permanent smile on their face.

I was 14 when a guy gave me my first ride in a 69 427 4 Spd "Motion " Corvette back around 1970. It had a super tricked out 427, M22, Kustom Side pipes, Aluminum flywheel, 950 CFM Holley and Can Am racing tires...the speed was unbelieveable and the sound from those side pipes was awesome.

It left an impression that has lasted a lifetime...keep giving those neighbors kids rides...they won't soon forget it!:_rock

I san't count the times I've been at the gas station and somebubba comes ub to admire my car and you gussed it,he used to have an 83

I know what you guys are talking about... Mine take place on the road and at car shows. there wwas this 12 year old boy that walked by my car with his little camera and was taking pictures of my car, when he was finishe I asked him to get in and I would take his picture the face he made was worth the world to me... His grin was from ear to ear... Latter his Dad came and thanked me for letting him sit in the car and having his picture taken. He said Dad you got to look at this car...
