I have an 82' with a very puzzling problem. A little history: as I drove off after passing the cash over to the guy I bought the car from at Calisle PA last year, the car bucked ( from the low fuel ) and died,( the problem ). OK, the lights and every thing went dead! NO power to any thing, I opened the battery box wiggled the cables and tried it again.. Wahlah ( But not the real fix to the problem )... she started back up and off I went... Well the bug is back... This time in my garage after pulling out to turn the car around. I was repositioning to work on the passenger side door. I went to put the window back up after adjusting the tracks, stuck the key in the ignition and nothing!

I have stated the search, the battery was good. The headlights work. I used a test light and power is getting to the starter. But I did find that the fuse box has no power to the connections labled BAT . Now what in the world could cause this?!!!! :confused :confused :mad

Thanks for any possible help..

Mac

Back to the basics.

You could have a bad ground connection just below the battery where the main gound cable attaches to the frame. You could have a bad ground strap from the engine block to the frame. YOu could have a bad connection at the main starter terminal lead where the power is fed from the battery.

Finally (and I really hope this is not it), the anti theft system could be going whacko on you.

Chris hit on a very common problem, a corroded, loose, or broken ground below the battery box at the frame. That would be the first place to check out for sure.

Check out the following!

Read page 2 of this post!

http://corvetteactioncenter.com/for...rt&pagenumber=2

Open Hood,
Get to passenger side
Look at firewall
Find Silver metal(relay) can mounted HIGH on firewall between AC box & distributor
Look down a bit
And there it is

Large wires 6 per connector
White shell(male) pluged into Black(female)
Inspect this CLOSELY

I'll bet you will find some extra crispy wiring!

This was the problem I am sure! The ground wire has burned out of the entire connector. and only one of the other wires has continuity throught it. I bet the one that has continuity is for the headlights....:(
Time to go to work fixing this one.. Won't take long though.. I hope! We will see if this is the whole problem....

Thanx Mac...

Ouch

Well good thing ya caught it NOW!

( putting another notch on the cyber tool box)

Glad to help!
