IGNITION SWITCH CONNECTOR ISSUE

I am replacing my standard (non tilt/tele) steering column with a rebuilt tilt/tele column. Have noticed that the ignition switch and vehicle harness connector is different between the two. :eyerole

The vehicle harness will only connect to my old (non tilt) ignition switch. I assume if I simply swap the switches from the old column to the new that things will not work correctly. :rotfl

What do you suggest???

Thanks!

I'm not that familiar with the details of the C3 electrical, but I'd suggest you go to www.corvettefaq.com and poke around in the section on steering columns; most of those papers were written by Jim Shea, a retired GM engineer who worked at Saginaw Steering Gear, who built the columns, and there's lots of excellent technical info there.

I did look through Jim's papers, no info on this subject. Any thoughts on any other leads to track down? I'd hate to have to put the original column back in!

Thanks

The parts book shows that the tilt/tele ignition switch is one part number different from the non-tilt/tele switch (don't know what the difference is), but it also shows the same instrument panel wire harness (which has the ignition switch connector on it) regardless of steering column usage. You might try the guys at www.corvettesteering.com ; they rebuild them and may have your answer.

Thanks John, that is an excellent lead. I'll call them tomorrow. :beer

OK, I got the answer from the guys at Corvette Steering (thanks for the recommendation John Z).

John was right, although the switches are different, with different blade locations, the harness side is the same. The guys at Corvette Steering told me that all it takes is to rotate the harness connector 180 degrees and it will hook up. Presto, magic! The blade locations are mirror image of each other.

Thanks guys!
