Ignitor II Install/Resistor Wire

Could someone who has installed the Ignitor or Ignitor II tell me whether or not they removed the resistor wire? It looks like that is what my '73 has and I want to know if standard install is best done by deleting this wire?

Do you know what the resistor does??..
I would have to research cause I cant remember.
I do know it helps for certain Applications. that need the voltage stepped, or something like that??..I know I didnt need to use it when I installed my MSD system?
