I just joined the forum

I am actively looking to buy a 1965 corvette and just starting to learn about these cars ins/outs.

I have talked to many characters out there and am afraid of buying a vette that may not be as described - example originality of engine and other key parts.

Any suggestions?

If you're serious about finding the "right" 65 and you have little or no experience in the Corvette hobby as a buyer, I think you have a couple of choices

1) Spend several months educating yourself about those cars. Reading books and forum sites can help. CAC sponsor Zip Products has a selection of books on Corvettes. Joining a Corvette club which has memebers who are C2 owners/enthusiasts would also help because you can network with them and learn. Next, I'd survey the market...spend a fair amount of time studying what's available for sale. Don't let money burn a hole in your pocket. Right now it's a buyer's market. That "right" 65 is probably out there, waiting to be found.

2) If you're not confident you can become expert enough to make an educated purchase on your own, I'd consider buying a car from one of the reputable Corvette dealers who cater to collectors.

Hib has presented very solid advice! :thumb To that I'd add hang around here and read every thread you can find in the C1/C2 Forum:

C1 & C2 General and Technical Discussion

If you have questions or need clarification, post up a new thread there and our members will help steer you in the right direction.

...and WELCOME to the :CAC

Welcome to the Forum annenp. :w Good luck on your search for a 1965 Corvette.

I agree with the other comments and would add: Buy the best Corvette you can afford, because some day you will sell it.

Thank you to all

everyday I am becoming more and more educated -- but I am so impatient and would just really like to buy one -- but I will not be too hasty --

can you suggested where else to look -- so far I've been looking at ebay, craiglist, and internet etc....

I don't have the time to attend car shows, etc...

Impatience, lack of time and lack of experience are not a good combinations when searching for an authentic early Vette, and eBay, and especially Craig's list are good places to get ripped off.

There are probably as many forgeries (or otherwise unoriginal) as authentic early models on the market. If you can't research a car first hand armed with the knowledge of where to look for matching numbers etc, etc, then you have to rely on an honest broker or dealer. Purchasing a Bloomington Gold or other certified car is also a possibility.

I've been around Vettes a long time, and I know I can be fooled by a good clone.

Welcome to CAC!!
good luck looking for your vette!!!!!
