Hitting the 1/4 mile track this weekend. Did well for my first shootout last year ( I won my brackett). But this track will be a much warmer location and I am wondering if there are any tricks out there to keep my motor temp down. I will have a shade tent, I prop open the hood for air flow between races, and might pick up some Water wetter ............ After a few runs, I know the motor will be heat soaked at upwards of 210 + degrees. Local air temp should be anywhere from 85 -95 at the Boise track.

Any ideas? Thanx! :upthumbs

You could install a manual switch so as to have the fans run longer and drop temp below normal fan operating range ( like on the return road or in the staging lanes) so you have less heat build while sitting up between rounds.
Will throw a code on your '96 because ECM sees fans running without it having turned then on but you know why it is there
Also lets you run the fans with engine off but that only cools the water in radiator.
You need to fire up the engine occasionally ( for 30 sec ) to circulate water from the block to radiator so it can be cooled unless you have a elec water pump to run with
the fans

How much do you want to win?
The serious guys pack 5-10lb bags of ice on their intakes just prior to a run and even on the run. I am not sure what NHRA rules are regarding this, but it does 2 things....keeps overall temps down and keeps intake air chilled, and it works!
Also, running straight water with the wetter will drop temps a couple degrees. Add anti-freeze at the gate on the way home.

You need a small generator they can be bought for $99.00 use it to power a fan sit it in front of the car while in the pits and pull the heat out of the radiator.
