hello,
i'm in France and i must do a pollution test every 2 years !

my co emissions are too important on my 84 vette ...the controler man said me : my carburation is too rich !

but i had a code 44: lean exhaust.

my O2 sensor , air filter ,fuel filter ,coolant sensor and spark plugs are new.

i had no air pump .
i had a 160°F themostat with stock ship in ECM.
i had a 180°F fan switch.

an idea ???

thanks

Check for air leaks in any hoses and around the manifold.
Check Balance in TBI units (see link above)
Make sure the EGR is working
Check fuel pressure (9 to 13 psi)
Check the MAP sensor

teher is no air pump on my car .
EGR is necssary or can i unplug the connecteur on egr valve ? : effects on Co ??

maybe but many persons with no air pump and EGR on a 84 vette said they are no troubles code !!
i don't understand if yes or no we have a error code on crossfire without air pump and egr

maybe my car 's running too cold and O2 sensor could not be enough hot to have the good voltage !

a stock thermostat shoud be "stop" the code ???

2 year SMOG, in California, too

perhaps, but why add more possible problems to what you already have? The EGR reduces NOx emissions, by lowering the exhaust temperatures under lean, (deceleration) conditions.

possible, and no air is pumped into the exhaust to complete the combustion. The Crossfires tend to run rich at idle anyway, due to the intake design. If you're testing at idle, this could be part of the problem. It takes a good revving to get the puddles out of the intake manifold.

This sounds like a better approach than disconnecting the EGR. However, I would be surprised to see a warmer (stock) thermostat really make all that much difference, if the car is warmed up.

In California, we always have the car tested only when it is well warmed up. I want the CAT hot and the engine good and warm; running a good fuel.

I have also passed a previous failed test, just by resetting the ECM. :w
