Hi All,

I have a small block chevy engine with 'double hump' heads that I'm trying to identify. The engine runs great, but am not sure how to identify it accurately...

The number stamped on the block is: 10D175498KO427CNV

Can somebody tell me what this means? I think it came out of a Camaro... not sure.

Is this a keeper?

Thanks!

As a wild guess, I think it's a Canadian built 350 ci in. 250 HP turbo hydramatic 2bbl. assembled April 27th originally installed in a 1970 Caprice. Or not.

69 Shark,

I you have what I think you have, It's a great find.
The double hump heads are 202 heads that came on the Chevy 302 CI (290 HP) engine in the '69 Z/28. It's a 327 block with a 289 crank that can easily be built to over 500 HP with an 8,000 RPM redline. The engine originally came with the cross-ram intake and twin carbs.
Great find!

Yup, in a Caprice built at Doraville, Georgia. :)

Lots of different Chevy heads had double-humps (462, 492, 186, 291, etc.), and they were all machined for both large and small valves depending on the application - can't tell unless you measure the valves, and none of those heads were ever used on a 1970 full-size car 350 engine.

No Z/28 ever came with the cross-ram intake; that setup was only available as an over-the-counter package to make it legal for SCCA Trans-Am. The TRACO-prepared cross-ram 302 Trans-Am engines were good for about 465hp.
