Happy new year everybody.

Anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive cutoff for the underhood lamps? MADVet has a hood lamp switch for $40. + s/h but if a cheaper working fix is available, I'd prefer to go that route.

Thanks.

Simply pull the fuse when the hood is up for extended periods. No wire cutting.

Disconnect Underhood Lamps

Quick and easy is the disconnect in the wiring harness, just follow the wiring from the lamps, its usually up near the RF headlamp.

On my 96 it's by the left headlight. But the follow the wire technique works either way.

A dab of white paint on the connector or a bright tiw wrap makes it easier to find next time down in that dark hole.

Regarding the switch question, any automotive switch mounted wherever you want it would work. Shouldn't cost over $5 if you do it yourself.

Sorta related: My underhood lights were a bit dim so I cleaned the reflectors with lacquer thinner, only to find out that the silver reflector was a thin layer of aluminum paint:hb Worked out good though, I painted the reflectors with white paint and the under hood lights are at least 2 or 3 times as bright as they were with the aluminum paint reflectors.

Install a switch......$2.00

I got tired of having to remove the fuse, so I just bought a little black paddle switch and put it in series with one of the wires going to the fuse holder. Used two zip ties to hold the switch on the fuse holder, and now I can turn the lights on-off with this handy switch, which is almost hidden. Pep Boys, Kragen, AutoZone, even Home Depot, all sell little flip switches for $2-$3.

hood light switch

Someone posted a neat fix for this awhile back. He used one of those household inline switches with the little thumb wheel. you just wire it in series with one of the wires on each light. made a real neat install. good luck:w :Steer Charlie
